It had been a few days since the two brothers had a decent meal. While both were large wolves, Sid was still new to hunting big game, and so they were more unsuccessful than some other hunting pairs. Orson wasn't too worried though, his brother was still young, and he would learn to be a capable hunter soon enough. Orson set his nose to the air with hunger on his mind and caught the scent of a ripe carcass in the warm summer breeze. "You smell that, Sid?" He asked rhetorically, looking over with a half smile, as the two brothers moved in the direction.

Not too far off they found the origin of the smell, a half eaten deer which was currently being scavenged on by a small black bear. The predator was just about the same size as Orson himself, and with Sid along, the wolf knew they had the upper hand. He wouldn't put his younger brother in danger on purpose, but he knew the situation was not as dangerous as it looked.

Orson looked to Sid and nodded, they both had done this many times before in their travels. He set out at a slow trot, letting out a low bark. The bear jerked up, surprised by the challenge. At first the bear stood his ground, even mock charging towards Orson, but the wolf knew that once the bear saw Sid he would reconsider defending his prize.

As the brothers toddled along, a scent wafted their way and immediately Sid brightened. He hopped in place, letting his tail wag as the smell of a carcass entranced him. "Foooooooooood..." He chanted to himself, nodding excitedly to his brother as they quickened their pace. Sid wanted to run forward and dig his face into it, but he knew the routine. He wasn't that good at fighting other scavengers for food or hunting for that matter, so Orson would go first and Sid would be back up.

As they closed in on the scent, a bear came into view. Sid held back and let Orson and the bear size each other up; it wasn't that big of a bear, but still it tried to defend it's prize with a warning charge. Sid was on his toes the whole time, his mouth watering as his eyes moved back and forth between his brother and the half eaten carcass. When he saw the opportune moment, Sid revealed himself and puffed himself up as big as he could- which wasn't hard, he was a big kid already. He raised his tail and curled his muzzle, emitting a growling bark. It wasn't something that would send someone running with their tail behind their legs, but it did the job alright. The bear knew it wouldn't stand a chance against the two of them and forfeited, trotting away shooting a few unhappy glances back at the brothers.

Once the two were certain the bear wouldn't come back, Sid bolted straight toward the deer carcass. "Fooooooooooood!" He squealed.

Faust darted out from his place in the brush and landed in front of the younger of the two wolves, planting his paws firmly on the ground and raising his tail up like a warning flag behind him.

“Standstill,” He growled, his voice reverberating in his throat. His intense eyes trained on the younger wolf, before fleeting up to meet the larger of the two. He was not met with the ferocity he had seen in most rogue wolves looking to enter Vale, yet he remained wary. He only knew of one reason a pair of male rogues would be flirting along pack borders, and that was in an effort to draw females away from the pack. Still, these two, grizzly-looking wolves hardly seemed malevolent. In fact their eyes alone struck Faust has having a rare, gentle-natured gleam.

”You’re attempting to hunt on pack land,” He hissed, his voice more annoyed than threatened. Despite what he made of these two, he’d follow his own protocol.

Once the bear was out of range, Orson smiled softly as he looked over at his young brother, proud of the other wolf for sticking to his guns. Over the course of their time alone, Sid had gotten much better at keeping his head in such situations, when Orson knew his one track mind was almost hyper-focused on the meal at  hand.

His pride waned quickly as another body shot out between Orson and Sid, splitting his sight line to his brother and putting him on alert. The silver male was nearly as large as Orson and clearly agitated, but Orson did as the male said and did not move.

"Pack land?" Orson shook his head, shifting, trying to see towards Sid. The older male hadn't been aware of any scent barrier that he had crossed, but the scent of the carcass could have hidden it. It was quite an overbearing rot, after all. "We've won this carcass from a black bear," he tried to explain, "We meant no harm." He did not like feeling separated from Sid, he worried for his safety against the other male, "Look at the tracks." He reaffirmed, motioning to the bear's fresh paw prints which led away into the forest.

Suddenly as a furry body popped out in front of Sid, he skidded to a stop, nearly running into the creature. His butt landed awkwardly close to his front legs, his hind paws pointing up as he stared wide-eyed into the strangers blazing golden orbs. Most young wolves would've shrunken back at the sight of such a serious beast as this, but Sid merely stared, amazed at how cool he looked. He couldn't help himself and just blurted out, "Whoa, are you an alpha?" It was the only logical thing that came to his brain right then.

He snapped out of his daze when this wolf spoke about hunting on pack lands. Pack? Where was there a pack? Sid looked around, trying to see if there were any signs of other wolves around, but it was just the three. In fact, really the only thing he could smell was the carcass. His eyes shot to it again and he began to salivate. "Fooood.." He seemed dazed again before coming back to reality. "Does that mean we can't eat it?" Sid asked the stranger, looking back at him. He put on his usual puppy, face, wide, sad eyes and a pouty lip. This was only something seen when he wanted food, but..this wolf didn't know that!

Tazihound said the following:

“Regardless, you are unaffiliated wolves on pack lands. I must ask that you depart immediately.” Faust looked down at the bear tracks and believed the large wolf’s story. He was certain these two wolves could intimidate even a grizzly. Vale was plagued with bears, the population was growing steadily and they had even been drawing into the den site as of late. Faust pondered the use of having two large wolves, capable of intimidating bears and keeping them at bay from the brood. But he could not assume this pair was looking for a new residence.

“If you have no further business in Vale, I will escort you to the border,” Faust’s eyes skimmed down at the disappointed pup. He looked hungry, the pair of them did, and it didn’t sit right with Faust to send two hungry wolves across the Anvil. Faust sighed and stepped aside. He knew we was breaking his own law, but something in the wolves’ eyes didn’t strike him as underhanded or malicious. They were simply a pair of misplaced brothers. “Take your fill, young wolf.” Faust looked over at the hulking brother further back, “You too.”

----------
Quailmix said the following:

Orson didn't say much to the other wolf, understanding the severity of the situation that the had accidentally brought his young brother into. When Sid complained, he curtly shushed the young male, not wanting to further upset their unwilling host any further.

When the other male suddenly had a change of heart, Orson was momentarily caught off guard. He looked over the stranger trying to gauge his intentions, but saw no malice behind his eyes. Finally, he gave his brother a nod, allowing him to eat, and took a wide berth around the Valerian to have his fill as well.

He ate with tension, keeping his eyes on the stranger, but the food consumed him and he allowed his hunger to take hold. He realized how lucky they were to be allowed to eat, and he realized that perhaps they had spent too long scavenging. They had an opportunity in front of them, it would be wrong not to at least attempt to take it.

He rose from the carcass, "In return for your favor," He looked down to Sid for a moment, knowing his brother was what was important, "We offer you our service as strength for your pack. My name is Orson, this is Sid." He introduced, "Allow us to show you how capable we may be in your service. Should you disapprove, we will leave at any time."

MatrixPotato said the following:

Sid shrunk back momentarily when Orson hissed at him to be quiet. He couldn't help the hunger he felt- though he was almost always hungry -so he couldn't really help himself. However, when the stranger stepped aside, Sid didn't hesitate when Orson gave him the okay eat. He jumped on the carcass with an excited woohoo! and gobbled up as much as he could, completely forgetting about the stranger standing mere feet away. His tail wagged as he filled his belly and when he had gotten his fill, he promptly laid down and chewed on a bone.

He looked up when Orson began speaking again. He licked his chops, looking between the two adults. Sid didn't really understand what Orson just said, but he was pretty sure that he just said thank you- in a very round-about, polite way. "Yeah, thanks mister!" He said with a grin, his muzzle still reddened from his feast.

----------
Tazihound said the following:

The wolves were grateful for the opportunity to feed, and the larger wolf who called himself Orson came to stand beside Faust. Faust was accustomed to large wolves in Vale, but never had he laid eyes on such a hulking figure. Still, the wolf’s disposition was calm and there seemed to be a kind wisdom in his eyes. His offer was sincere, and Faust knew these wolves could pull their own weight in the pack. “Your strength is well received. My name is Faust, I am the alpha here. Welcome to Vale.”
Brothers Orson and Sid run into Faust along the border, and are welcomed to Vale! ( These 3 look like family!)
